President’s Message

Gaming is a buzzing activity for many in our young generation. Behind many of such games are the simulation engines. Simulation and gaming, or SAG in short, is coined to differentiate the field from pure entertainment gaming.

While gaming implies a contesting spirit, SAG emphasizes on experiential and interactive learning, with the aim of making gaming activities more directional and the learning experience more reflective of the domain of learning. The rapid advancement in information and communication technologies has made it easier to design and to deliver simulation games to more participants. It also leads to using more sophisticated techniques in making simulation games more engaging as learning tools. On one hand, mathematical modeling, computer visualization and other techniques are essential to enhance the virtual reality. On the other hand, debriefing and facilitating methods make practices with a mentor in the virtual reality clearer in learning goals. In essence, SAG is about 'gaming to learn' as well as 'learning to game'. People in SAG know the importance of sharing the knowledge and experience in building simulation games and using them to teach.

We, as founding members of the Society of Simulation and Gaming of Singapore, or SSAGSg, are a group of people who have been using SAG in our professional activities that involve teaching and training. The formation of SSAGSg is to give ourselves a recognised community status in which we can work together to promote the knowledge in many aspects of SG in learning institutions, industry, government and business.

SAG is used in many disciplines and many cultures. Through our international networking, we offer a chance for our members to professionally upgrade ourselves globally in many directions. The International Simulation and Gaming Association (ISAGA) holds its conference annually. Its official journal, Simulation & Gaming, is also adopted as the official journal of SSAGSg. Through local activities such as workshops, seminars, and certainly, simulation games, we hope to provide dynamism and continuity to the SAG community in Singapore and the region.

Welcome to SSAGSg!
